News Update: All About Tomorrow's Episode! (Spoilers)
Some Major Mama Drama on this Week's 'Privileged'
Continuing today's theme of guest-star mentions, Sharon Lawrence is back as the mother of Megan (JoAnna Garcia) on "Privileged" (8 p.m. Tuesday, WGN-Ch. 9).
Have you noticed that underneath Megan’s perky charm, there’s a fair amount of anger and angst? Well, in Tuesday’s episode, Megan finally unloads some of that on her mother, who skipped out on her family when her daughters needed her most.
There’s also a story line about Marco, the chef who works in the same mansion where Megan serves as a tutor for a pair of heiresses. As played by the delightfully droll Allan Louis, Marco is one of my favorite parts of this breezy show (and if you need life advice, you can always Talk to Marco).
Lucy In Tuesday’s episode, the chef’s boyfriend, Keith (David Monahan) encourages him to open his own restaurant. The other significant-other action in the episode involves Megan and her new boyfriend Will (Brian Hallisay); all I'll say is that they go a little "Grey's" (good "Grey's," not awful "Grey's").
A story line that doesn’t work as well involve Megan’s friend Charlie (Michael Cassidy), who is stranded in a side plot that revolves around his jealous girlfriend. However EW.com reports that Cassidy is soon leaving the show, and though I like the actor, his departure may not be a bad thing, given that the Charlie arc seems to be stuck in neutral.
I fret a bit that the two “Privileged” sisters that Megan tutors, Rose (Lucy Kate Hale) and Sage (Ashley Newbrough), aren’t quite as interesting as they should be mid-way through the show’s first season. In Tuesday’s episode, which has them throwing a charity lunch for a cause they know nothing about, they come off as almost distressingly ditzy. Still, Sage’s unlikely crush on one of her family’s employees softens the character a little and makes me think I may yet warm to this imperious rich girl.

News Update: New Love Interest for Megan?
Exclusive: Jungle Boy Toy Has "Write Stuff" for Privileged
A loss for the audience of one unsung series is another's gain.
Robert Buckley, who immediately made waves on NBC's Lipstick Jungle as Kirby, Kim Raver's strapping young boy on the side, is joining the cast of Privileged, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
"Clearly, I can't get enough cute guys on this show!" Privileged creator Rina Mimoun quipped while sharing the news with us.
Buckley will appear in the final two episodes of the CW series' 18-episode freshman season, playing the editor-in-chief of a magazine where both Megan and Will hope to be working. Considering the upcoming departure of Michael Cassidy's Charlie, it's safe to venture that this studly scribe will have the "write stuff" to complicate Megan's romance with the boy next door.

News Update: No More Charlie - Michael Cassidy no longer Privileged
Exclusive: Michael Cassidy no longer 'Privileged'
Sorry, Charlie-Megan fans, it looks like it's the end of the road for Privileged's unrequited duo.
Michael Cassidy, a.k.a. the Dawson to Joanna Garcia's Joey, is departing the show for reasons both creative and budgetary. He'll make his final appearance in this season's 15th episode when Charlie decides to go back to college.
"Charlie will be leaving town," confirms series creator Rina Mimoun, "but not until some hot and heavy kissing goes down."
Mimoun isn't spilling who Chuckles will be heading to first base with, but, c'mon, read between the lines, people. She does reveal that the door has definitely been left open for Cassidy (whom she calls "a prince") to return next season -- assuming there is a next season.
"Right now, I'm more concerned about Privileged returning for a second season than just Charlie," Mimoun confesses. "If everyone wants both, then I think we have a shot!"
Privileged's recent Monday "test drive" behind Gossip Girl yielded promising results; the show notched double-digit gains over its Wednesday average. Still, the underrated charmer is by no means a shoo-in for renewal, which brings us back to the question posed by Mimoun: Do you want to see Privileged back next season? And, if so, would a season 2 have to include Charlie -- at least in some capacity?

News Update: Mid Season Review
Privileged: It's All About the Mid-Season Review
We knew from the moment we watched the first episode of Privileged that we were in for a great treat. How could one go wrong with a cast that features The O.C. alum Michael Cassidy and Reba sweetheart Joanna Garcia, not to mention a whole roster of fresh, fun faces?
What rocks about season one of Privileged:
- Sage. Okay, we admit it: The bad-girl attitude has grown on us. We like how she mixes things up, pushes Megan to her limits and goes for everything she wants without hesitation. What’s even better now is this fling with Luis. We can’t wait to see how Sage goes after her new crush.
- The chef with the sass and solid advice, Marco. The Limoges household may not realize it, but that roost is being ruled by the kitchen help. The recipe for a perfect show: More Marco!
- The relationships! It was great seeing what lead up to Megan and Will getting together, and we’re excited for the relationship to get serious. Charlie and Mandy are shacking up. Laurel reunited with an old flame. The girls are finding love interests. Even Lily got married! Looks like the last man standing is poor Marco - always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
What needs work:
- Two heiresses, one mansion and the least trendy wardrobe on the planet. Maybe someone can sneak over to the set of Gossip Girl and grab a few pieces. We’re not complaining about the quality of clothes -- they're definitely high-class. But they could be so much better! We’re thinking that Sage could totally rock the Rhianna look, and Rose could play up the classy lady a little more.
- Our least favorite person by far has to be Lily. She really has worked up quite a laundry list. She stole from Rose (who for some dumb reason covered for her), worked in cahoots with Sage to throw Megan off her game, dated Will just to get even with Megan, and then snuck off with her bad-boy ex and got married without telling anyone. What a gem!
- Too much Smith family drama. If it’s not Lily, it’s their father, and if it’s not the dad, it’s the mom. Enough already!
That's our take -- now what do you think? Tell us what you love about Privileged, and what you think needs to shape up. Talk about it in the comments!
